About

Built by someone who had to sit the exams.

Provantis (Pty) Ltd is a South African company that writes software and holds the same regulatory qualifications as the brokers it builds for. That combination is the whole reason the product exists.

Adele — founder and chief executive

Two careers that do not usually meet

On one side: RE1 and RE5, an NQF Level 5 in short-term insurance, compliance management through the UCT Faculty of Law, and corporate governance and risk management through Milpark. On the other: fifteen years designing and building software, with formal qualifications in user experience.

Compliance software is usually built by engineers who have read the regulations, or by compliance people who have commissioned a developer. Both produce something recognisable — technically correct and unusable, or well-meaning and imprecise. Provantis is an attempt at the third thing: a product where the person specifying the rule and the person designing the screen are the same person, and both jobs are done properly.

It began with a question that had no good answer. Brokers were being asked to demonstrate things they had never been asked to demonstrate before — by insurers at renewal, by compliance officers at review, by regulators after the fact. Nothing available was built for South African instruments, South African insurers, or a practice of nine people.

Why it exists

The questions arrived faster than the answers

Three things changed for South African brokers and UMAs in a short space of time, and none of them came with a letter in the post.

01Insurers started underwriting on evidence

Renewal and due-diligence questionnaires can ask about controls, not just claims history. Joint Standard 2 of 2024, in effect since 1 June 2025, applies directly to insurers; most independent non-life Category I intermediaries are not directly in scope in that capacity, but may face requirements through an insurer-specific contract or oversight process.

02Outsourcing arrangements got a deadline

Joint Standard 1 of 2024 directly regulates insurers and material outsourced functions. A pre-existing material arrangement must comply by 1 December 2026, or on renewal or renegotiation if earlier. A UMA or binder-holder relationship is included only where the insurer's materiality assessment and the arrangement bring it into scope.

03Requirements moved without announcement

Thresholds change through guidance notes, not amendments. Firms find out when someone asks them to prove they complied — retrospectively.

How it is built

Three commitments we are willing to be held to

A

Every finding names its source

Not “you may have a privacy issue” — the section, so you or your compliance officer can read it and disagree. A finding you cannot check is not evidence of anything.

B

Unverifiable references are removed, not shown

Where a clause reference cannot be matched against the source instrument, the platform strikes it and says so rather than presenting it. In a category where confident wrong citations are common, we would rather show you less.

C

What we observed is separated from what you told us

Scanner findings and your own attestations are marked distinctly in every report, because the people reading them weigh those two things very differently.

Who it is for

The short-term value chain, at working size

Independent brokerages, broker groups, underwriting managers and binder holders. Obligation does not scale with headcount — a three-person practice owes the same duties as a thirty-person one, with less capacity to find them. The platform is built for the smaller end and scales up, rather than the reverse.

Our position · signed declaration

An evidence platform, not a regulator

Provantis helps you assemble what your insurer, your board and your regulator are asking for. It does not issue licences, audits, attestations or legal opinions, and it does not certify anyone as compliant — no software honestly can. Compliance is a fact about your practice, not an output of a tool.

Responsibility for regulatory compliance stays with the financial services provider. That is the arrangement, and we state it on every page and inside every report we produce.
